My story

This year Christian Aid is asking people to do '70k in May' as part of Christian Aid Week.

Some of you may remember that four years ago I walked from Christian Aid's London office to my home in Bearsted along the Pilgrims' Way.  Well this year, I thought I would do another part of that ancient route - this time from Rochester to Canterbury. I plan to do it over three days between 21-23 May.  It is technically just under 70k, but once you add on detours to get to the train stations at the beginning and end of days, it should be pretty much bang on 70k. Obviously if I get lost and have to retrace my steps, it will be further.

Many of you know about Christian Aid's work, but those of you who don't, the organisation works in some of the world's poorest communities through local partners providing both humanitarian relief and longer term development work.  It also advocates to governments and national institutions to change the systems and structures that keep so many people in poverty.

Sadly 80 years after its foundation, the need to which Christian Aid responds is as great as ever, if not more so. Therefore any donation you could make to support Christian Aid would be very much appreciated.

How your money helps

This Christian Aid Week, you can support communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

In places like Guatemala, extreme weather is destroying crops, deepening hunger and threatening livelihoods. But with the right tools and training, farmers can build sustainable futures.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • Provide climate-resilient seeds to help families grow food.
  • Fund water conservation techniques to protect crops.
  • Support vital training so farmers can build a sustainable future.
