My story

In places like South Sudan, for families like Shede's, the daily struggle is not just for safety but also to protect their children from hunger and malnutrition. Having left everything behind, they arrive in refugee settlements with just the clothes they fled in.

Even resilient individuals now face an uncertain future. But with your help, we can support families like hers to buy food and lifesaving supplies.

By giving up just a little of our Christmas, (for example by forgoing or creating our own Christmas Crackers), we could donate their cost to help families like Shede's find comfort during conflict.

This Christmas, as we celebrate, please give what you can, and also pray that it will be possible to make a brighter more peaceful future for them.

Thank you so much

Well done and thank you

As we begin to face the hopes and uncertainties of the new year to come, thank you all for responding kindly to the need of the people caught up in the civil war in Sudan.

Like Shede and her daughter Saida, most of them have fled in fear with very little, to the safety of places like Wedwell Refugee Camp, ran by Christian Aid partner Smile Again Africa Development Organisation (SAADO).

Finally, a word from Daniel Auyen, Food Security and Livelihoods Programme Manager at Wedwell, who says:

"I was born and raised in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya.  I really understand what the people I work with are going through.  I've lived their problems.  I received help from people I never met - I don't even  know their names.

But their support helped me to become who I am today.  I feel a duty to give back now and share my story.  Because people like me who receive support, will go on to repay it by working to make the world a better place."

Thank you

Thank you all who have kindly donated to our Sudan Appeal so far.  It is encouraging to have reached the half-way point to our target.

There will be one last chance to contribute in person at the Parish Service on Sunday 5th January at Bradpole.

This envelope will remain open until the 4th Sunday of Epiphany, 26th January.

How your money helps

This Christmas, you can support families in South Sudan; a country ravaged by conflict and the climate crisis.

Extreme poverty is deepening, as food shortages, high prices, lack of clean water, and poor sanitation make daily life an enormous challenge for most. As more families arrive to seek refuge each day, exponential pressure is being put on communities and humanitarian organisations who are already at breaking point.

Every pound you raise could provide:

  • Nutritious meals to help families combat hunger and malnutrition.
  • Blankets and warm clothing to bring comfort to children far from home.
  • Financial assistance that enables families to buy essential items and rebuild their lives.

Your donations, this Christmas, will bring hope to those who need it most.
